Laura Ashley Bilderrahmen

Check your rights

This article from the Hollywood Reporter is as good as a textbook case.

An licensee sued MTV. Their claim: They spent millions on branded clothing and luggage only to have the products seized by local authorities.

“A licensing deal was signed with MTV Networks that allowed the company to offer products in 30 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, but then San Panama says it discovered that MTV and Viacom “never registered the licensed marks and logos in many of the territories licensed to plaintiffs under the agreement.”

The “licensed” products were seized by authorities as infringing upon the trademark, copyright and proprietary rights of third parties, not MTV.

This is a nice example, why licensing is not a job for beginners.

Laura Ashley Picture Frames

The headline could be “back to sensible licensing”.
Laura Ashley has signed a licensing agreement for a collection of picture frames.
The licensee is with Isaac Jacobs International.
The debut collection will include free standing and wall-mounted frames of acrylic, wood, resin, glass, metal and plastic.
The Laura Ashley frame collection will be launched in department and specialty stores early 2013.
After some strange brand extensions this one is true to the core of the brand, romantic.
