In Indien schloss die letzte Fabrik für mechanische Schreibmaschinen, Teil von Godrey and Boyce.

In den 90ern verkaufte die Firma noch bis zu 50.000 Geräte im Jahr, 2010 waren es dann nur noch 800.

Große Marken für Schreibmaschinen waren u. a. IBM, Remington, Adler, National, Olivetti, AEG, Olympia.

In ein paar Jahren wird der berühmte Slapstick von Jerry Lewis kaum noch jemandem etwas sagen.

Good bye typewriters

In India the last manufacturer of typewriters, Godrey and Boyce, closed the factory.

In the 90s the company still sold up to 50,000 typewriters annually. In 2010 sales had dropped to some 800 machines, sold to government offices mostly.

Already in the 80s many big name manufacturers had given up on typewriters. Big brands at one time were IBM, Remington, Adler, National, Olivetti, AEG, Olympia.  

A few years from now, the famous Jerry Lewis piece will be awkward. Here it is, for an early morning smile:

Ed Hardy take-over by Iconix

Iconix Brand Group announced it has acquired the worldwide master license for the Ed Hardy brand from Nervous Tattoo. Iconix already had a small investment in the brand through its joint venture with Don Ed Hardy.
Iconix paid $55 million plus a $7 million earn-out for this acquisition. As part of the transaction, Nervous Tattoo will pre-pay $7 million in royalties and continue as a licensee for Ed Hardy t-shirts, hats and hoodies.

Iconix will gain control of the licensing and marketing, and increase its total ownership stake in the Ed Hardy brand to 85 percent.

Labelux übernimmt Jimmy Choo und Belstaff

Labelux, ist die Luxus Gruppe der Familie Reimann, denen auch Reckitt Benkiser anteilig und Coty komplett gehört. Bisher gehören zur Gruppe die Marken Bally, Derek Lam, Zagliani und Solange Azagury-Partridge

Letzte Woche übernahm Labelux die Luxus Schuhmarke Jimmy Choo von TowerBrook Capital LLP. Und heute wurde bekannt, dass man die Marke Belstaff erworben hat.

Damit hat Lebalux zwei echte Ikonen hinzugewonnen.

Labelux buys Jimmy Choo and Belstaff

Labelux Group announced last Sunday its purchase of Jimmy Choo.
The group holdings included Bally, Derek Lam, Zagliani and Solange Azagury-Partridge so far.

And today Labelux announced the purchase of Belstaff, a great Italian brand known for motorcycle clothing, wax outerwear and recently revived.

Now Labelux added two iconic brands within a week and is developing an interesting portfolio.
