According to the LIMA survey, in 2008 brand owners collected $5.7 billion in royalties.
That is 5.6% less than they collected in 2007.
This marks the 2nd year of declining royalties in a row.
Royalties declined in eight of the nine categories of licenses tracked in the LIMA survey.
The only exception was the collegiate market, where royalties collected by schools and affiliated organizations rose 3.5% to $208 million in 2008.
The total of royalties from fashion declined by 4.3%,
from corprate brands and trademarks by 8%.
