As reported on Yahoo, Isaac Mizrahi was acquired by Xcel Brands, Inc., which then went public through a reverse merger transaction.
Xcel was formed by Robert W. D’Loren, who has developed a track record of successfully acquiring and monetizing intellectual properties. He was part of the first going public of music rights, when David Bowie sold his cataloge. He also participated in the start of Iconix.
Xcel Brands will manage Isaac Mizrahi’s existing line, which is sold on QVC. It plans to license apparel, footwear and home categories, which are supposed to bring the brand back to retail.
Xcel also plans to acquire more brands, in essence competing with Iconix.
